Where Can I Watch Broadway's The Lehman Trilogy Online?

At Filmed on Stage we strive to collect every single Broadway (and West End) show that was professionally filmed for release. Through our online database, you can watch various Broadway hits online such as classics as CatsLes MiserablesThe Phantom of the Opera42nd Street, but also contemporary Broadway musicals and plays such as Kinky Boots, Falsettos, and Red: The Broadway Play.

Following the 2022 Tony Awards ceremony which was held on June 12, we've been constantly asked by our readers how can viewers stream The Lehman Trilogy online, as it was indeed filmed for release back in 2019.

We're not surprised by the sudden spike in interest, as The Lehman Trilogy, which finished off its limited Broadway run in January just won 5 Tony Awards including Es Devlin for Best Scenic Design of a Play, Jon Clark for Best Lighting Design of a Play, Sam Mendes for Best Direction of a Play, Simon Russell Beale for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play, and ultimately Best Play.

How Can I Stream Broadway's The Lehman Trilogy online?

The Lehman Trilogy is a three-act play by Stefano Massini which follows the lives of three brothers, arriving in America as immigrants and founding an investment firm. The story of that firm and its terrible collapse in 2008 (and the huge financial crisis that followed as a result) are the basis for The Lehman Trilogy

The English version of the play first opened in London at the National Theatre running for a limited engagement from July to October 2018. The show later transferred to the West End's Piccadilly Theatre for a sold-out 12-week engagement which was extended several times. The show eventually closed on August 31, 2019.

While at the Lyttelton Theatre, The Lehman Trilogy was filmed live for the National Theatre's NTLive program which films various productions of the National Theatre in London every year. Recent NTLive programming include All My Sons, All About Eve, and a revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical Follies.

While certain NTLive shows were released for free streaming in 2020, such as Romeo and Juliet and One Man, Two Guvnors, others became available to rent through the National Theatre's own streaming site.

Due to the show's opening on Broadway in 2020, The Lehman Trilogy was not released on either platform due to rights issues and the fear of cannibalization of ticket sales (we explain this in detail in our article, Why are so few Broadway shows get filmed?).

With the closing of the show on Broadway in January 2022, it is expected that the recorded version of The Lehman Trilogy will eventually find its way to NTLive's platform, just as the filmed version of both Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches and Angels in America Part Two: Perestroika did after closing on Broadway.
