National Theatre announces third wave of new shows for free streaming!

Thursday night has officially become National Theatre night, as the company now announces the third wave of shows to be streamed for free online. The new shows announced today are:

  • Barber Shop Chronicles; May 14th - May 21st - Stream the show here!
    • A never-before-seen archive recording of Inua Ellams’ smash-hit play, about the places where banter is barbed, and the truth is telling. Newsroom, political platform, local hotspot, confession box, preacher-pulpit and football stadium. For generations, African men have gathered in barber shops to discuss the world. These are places where the banter can be barbed and the truth is always telling.

  • A Streetcar Names Desire; May 21st - May 28th - Stream the show here!
    • Gillian Anderson plays Blanche DuBois in the critically acclaimed Young Vic production of Tennessee Williams' classic play. As Blanche’s fragile world crumbles, she turns to her sister Stella for solace – but her downward spiral brings her face to face with the brutal, unforgiving Stanley Kowalski.

  • This House; May 28th - June 4th - Stream the show here!
    • A timely, moving and funny insight into the workings of 1970s British politics by James Graham. It’s 1974, and Britain has a hung Parliament.  The corridors of Westminster ring with the sound of infighting and backstabbing as the political parties battle to change the future of the nation.

  • Coriolanus; June 4th - June 11th- Stream the show here!
    • This Donmar Warehouse production features Tom Hiddleston in the title role of Shakespeare’s searing and political revenge tragedy. When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too. As famine threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field, Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people.

The two-month National Theatre at Home programme began last month with One Man, Two Guvnors and is currently expected to run through June. The filmed plays are shown every Thursday at 7PM UK time and are available on demand for seven days. The productions are made available by special rights granted to the National Theatre by the actors and directors of the productions, which have all waived their rights to the productions in order to stream it online at this time.
