Waitress the Musical Sets Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray Release

The filmed live capture of the Broadway return engagement of Waitress the Musical, starring Sara Bareilles, is now playing in movie theaters through December 11th - but fear not if you are unable to find a nearby cinema showing the film.

Bleecker Street Media's home entertainment division, Decal, will handle the release of both the digital and physical distributions of the musical following the film's limited cinema release, with Pre-orders now live!

Following multiple sold-out engagements at the Tribeca Film Festival, the distribution rights for the eagerly anticipated film adaptation of "Waitress: the Musical" were sold to Bleecker Street Media, which collaborated with Fathom Events to bring the musical to cinemas across the US for 5 days only.

It has now been announced that Bleecker will entrust the digital and physical distribution of the film to Decal Media, its home media arm. Here's what we currently know about the upcoming release:

Filmed over four days, the live capture was shot during two live performances with an audience and then two days of setups on stage for big crane shots, overhead shots, and handheld cameras on stage. The resulting film is a combination of all four performances.

Decal, an entertainment distribution company and the distribution arm of both Bleecker Street and NEON films will oversee further distribution of Waitress. The film will debut on streaming services through Decal and later be released on DVD & Blu-Ray in the US.

Amazon's Prime Video, the first streaming platform to sign a distribution agreement with Decal, will feature the musical on its platform immediately after its cinema release. The film can now be pre-ordered.

The release date for both the DVD & Blu-Ray has not been announced at this time.

The world premiere screening at the Tribeca Film Festival came after two years of post-production work by STEAM Motion and Sound, who also produced the filmed captures of Aladdin: The Broadway Musical, Heathers the Musical, Kinky Boots, and the recently released "The Prince of Egypt."

"Waitress: Filmed Live on Broadway" is directed by STEAM's resident director Brett Sullivan, along with Diane Paulus and Jessie Nelson. The film is produced by Michael Roiff, Barry & Fran Weissler, Sara Bareilles, Jessie Nelson, and Paul Morphos.

Waitress: Filmed Live on Broadway brings the Tony-nominated, Broadway phenomenon to the big screen. Featuring composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles as Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself.

Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, Jenna begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf. Waitress celebrates the power of friendship, dreams, the family we choose, and the beauty of a well-baked pie.

The musical opened on Broadway in April 2016, received Grammy nominations, and had a successful run until January 2020. After the Broadway shutdown due to the pandemic, it was revived at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in September 2021, with Bareilles taking on the lead role. The filmed version of the musical was produced during this limited engagement and will be showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival."
