BBC Announces Streaming Date for Big Night of Musicals Concert

Wicked, Les Misérables, Six, and The King and I (which can be streamed here) are just some of the musicals that took part in the "Big Night Of Musicals" this February, which will now be broadcast and streamed online thanks to the BBC.

The 90-minute concert also features the casts of Hamilton, The Bodyguard, Matilda, Disney's Newsies, Mamma Mia!, We Will Rock You, Shrek the Musical, and Ain't Too Proud. Michael Ball will also appear in a performance from the upcoming West End revival of Aspects of Love.

This is the second year the "Big Night of Musicals" is organized by The National Lottery, and staged at the AO Arena in Machester. Comedian Jason Manford hosts the evening.

Today, BBC announced the filmed concert would air on BBC One on March 26th at 7:50 PM, and will also be available through iPlayer for online streaming. It is currently not known if the concert will also stream outside the UK.

In addition to the musical performances, stage stars Layton Williams (Everybody's Talking About Jamie) and Samantha Barks (Frozen, Pretty Woman) will present a two-hour radio show on BBC Radio 2 with more music from the night.

Suzy Klein, Head of Arts and Classical Music TV, said in a press statement: ”Following on from the huge success of the first musicals celebration last year, I’m delighted the BBC is able to bring another great night showcasing the very best of performance arts and British theatre, straight to viewers in the comfort of their own homes."

Last year's "Big Night of Musicals" concert features appearances from the casts of Tina, Dreamgirls, &Juliet, Frozen, Disney's The Lion King, Back to the Future, The Wiz, Dear Evan Hansen, Waitress, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock. Selections from the 2022 concert are now available to stream freely.
