Watch: Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical Trailer Released

Disney has officially released the first trailer for Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical, the long-awaited live stage recording of its hit West End production. The filmed performance will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Friday, June 20, bringing the full theatrical experience of Frozen directly into homes worldwide.

This proshot, captured at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, features Samantha Barks as Elsa and Laura Dawkes as Anna, alongside a full cast performing the musical adaptation of Disney’s Oscar®-winning animated film. The stage version expands the original story into a two-act Broadway-style spectacle, complete with dazzling special effects, breathtaking visuals, and new songs written especially for the musical.

A Landmark Moment in Disney Theatrical History

Frozen: The Musical marks the latest in Disney Theatrical Group’s slow-growing but high-profile history of filming its stage productions. While the company has released several live recordings of concerts and animated specials over the years, fully staged proshots of Broadway or West End shows remain a rare treat.

The filmed version of Frozen follows in the footsteps of the unreleased Aladdin capture, which was filmed in London in 2019 but has yet to premiere. Fans have often speculated about Disney’s reluctance to release high-quality captures of its biggest stage hits, but the success of Hamilton on the platform appears to have shifted the company’s stance. With Frozen now officially heading to streaming, Disney is signaling a greater openness to sharing its theatrical content with global audiences.

A Deeper Look at the Stage Production

The musical adaptation of Frozen features a score by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the award-winning songwriting duo behind Let It Go, Do You Want to Build a Snowman?, and many other modern Disney classics. The stage show adds 12 brand-new songs to the beloved film’s soundtrack, allowing for deeper emotional arcs, extended character development, and more ensemble-driven storytelling.

Directed by Tony Award® winner Michael Grandage (Red) and choreographed by Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie), the production has earned praise for its scale, its intricate set and costume design by Christopher Oram, and the powerful performances of its leads—particularly Samantha Barks, whose rendition of "Let It Go" has become a highlight of the West End.

The London production opened in August 2021 and received four Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical. It closed in September 2024, making the filmed version a lasting legacy of its celebrated run.

A Story You Know—Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Set in the fictional kingdom of Arendelle, Frozen tells the story of Queen Elsa, whose hidden powers plunge the land into eternal winter, and her younger sister Anna, who sets out on a journey to bring her home. It’s a tale of sisterhood, sacrifice, and the redemptive power of love—and while the story will be familiar to fans of the 2013 film, the stage version enriches the narrative with new emotional beats and musical highlights.

This filmed version will offer viewers a front-row seat to the theatrical magic, with sweeping cinematography capturing every frosty detail, from Olaf’s puppetry to Elsa’s spellbinding transformations.

Frozen: The Musical streams exclusively on Disney+ starting Friday, June 20. Don’t miss your chance to experience the show that melted hearts on stage—now from the comfort of your couch.
