Heathers the Musical Expected to Be Released on DVD and Blu-Ray
Confirming our previous reports, Kaleidoscope Entertainment announced this week that they had acquired the UK distribution rights to bring the live stage capture of Heathers the Musical to over 200 cinemas on March 28th (an increase of the previously-announced 123 screens). While the film has been streaming for free in the US since September 16th, this is the first time the live capture will be shown in the UK, where the show is currently playing at The Other Palace Palace theatre. In addition to the exciting cinema event, the official press release mentions a future "home entertainment release" of Heathers as part of the deal signed between BLK Entertainment, Lakeshore, Village Roadshow, and Kaleidoscope. Heathers will arrive in UK cinemas for a one-night-only event, showcasing the live recording captured in the show’s original London home back in May. The film features leading lady Ailsa Davidson as Veronica Sawyer, Simon Gordon as J.D., Teleri Hughes as Heather McNamara, and current cast members Maddison Firth as Heather Chandler, and Vivian Panka as Heather Duke. Kaleidoscope Entertainment's CEO Spencer Pollard said, "We're very excited to be working with BLK Entertainment, Lakeshore, and Village Roadshow on this brilliant filmed live show. We can't wait for audiences across the country to enjoy it with us". In the press statement dated January 26th, Kaleidoscope added that a "home entertainment release will follow [the cinema event]", indicating its home distribution arm "Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment" will likely release the musical on DVD, Blu-Ray, and Digital following the March premiere. Kaleidoscope's recent films were released on home media a month after their cinema premiere date, which could hint a Heathers DVD/Blu-Ray could be a reality this summer. Launched in 2008, Kaleidoscope is a global independent all-rights entertainment distributor, with theatrical, digital, physical, and international distribution operations. The company's catalog contains more than 1,750 feature films. No further information was provided at this time on the expected home release of Heathers. Bill Kenwright’s BKStudios produce, along with Village Roadshow Pictures (VRP), Fickman, Murphy, and O’Keefe. The film has been captured by Steam Motion and Sound, who are also currently working on the upcoming screen captures of Waitress, Bonnie and Clyde, and The Prince of Egypt. The Heathers pro-shot also features Mhairi Angus as Martha Dunnstock, Vicki Lee Taylor as Ms Fleming / Veronica’s mum, Liam Doyle as Kurt Kelly, and Rory Phelan as Ram Sweeney. Andy Brady, Oliver Brooks, Jermaine Woods, Benjamin Karran, Chris Parkinson, Eleanor Morrison-Halliday, Mary-Jean Caldwell, Hannah Lowther, and May Tether complete the line-up.
