Exclusive: Filmed Heathers Musical Coming to Cinemas March 28th

EXCLUSIVE: The live capture of Heathers: The Musical will be coming to cinemas in the UK & Ireland on March 28th! The filmed production, which was previously released exclusively in the US and Canada through the Roku Channel will now finally make its European debut.

Steam Motion and Sound, who previously filmed Broadway and West End hits such as WaitressAladdin, and Kinky Boots, captured Heathers the Musical live in performance back in May 2022 at London's The Other Palace Theatre.

The filmed performance, which stars Ailsa Davidson as Veronica Sawyer, will now appear in cinemas across the UK starting in March.

Here's all we know about the cinema release of Heathers the Musical, and how US fans can still stream the show online:

Previously released exclusively through the Roku Channel, the Heathers: The Musical live capture will be released to cinemas in the UK and Ireland thanks to Kaleidoscope Film Distribution on March 28th, 2023.

The cinema release will come a short month after the show will embark on its highly anticipated UK tour, set to being at the Theatre Royal Windsor on February 14th.

Tickets for the UK screenings will be on sale in the coming days through the various cinemas that picked up the event. Stay tuned for ticketing information.

Viewers in the US and Canada can still stream Heathers online - the show marked the rare occasion where a filmed stage capture became available to stream for free upon its release.

As with other Roku Originals, the musical is expected to remain free on the streaming platform throughout the cinema distribution deal and does not currently have a take-down date.

The original Heathers film is also streaming for free through the platform - for a limited time.

When the musical was released through Roku last year, Heathers fans were surprised the capture will be an exclusive release in the US and Canada as the show is London-based. Thanks to the incredible popularity of the show in the UK, Kaleidoscope Film Distribution has picked up the distribution rights for the live capture and will release it across the UK and in Ireland.

A physical release of Heathers is also looking like a possibility - Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment, a subsidiary of the film distribution arm, typically releases the studio's movies on DVD and Blu-Ray shortly after their cinema release. Heathers the Musical is based on the cult 1989 film by Daniel Waters, which gained popularity years after its original release. The show previously enjoyed two record-breaking seasons at London's The Other Palace and transferred to the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2018. In parallel to the show's return to the West End, the musical also embarked on its first tour of the UK and Ireland.

Westerberg High's Veronica Sawyer is just another nobody dreaming of a better day. But when she joins the beautiful and impossibly cruel Heathers, her dreams of popularity may finally come true. Mysterious teen rebel JD teaches her that it might kill to be a nobody, but it is murder being a somebody.

The filmed production features Ailsa Davidson as Veronica Sawyer, Simon Gordon as J.D, Maddison Firth as Heather Chandler, Vivian Panka as Heather Duke, Teleri Hughes as Heather McNamara, Vicki Lee Taylor as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom, Mhairi Angus as Martha Dunnstock, Liam Doyle as Kurt Kelly, Rory Phelan as Ram Sweeney, Oliver Brooks as Kurt’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, Andy Brady as Ram’s Dad/Principle Gowan/Veronica’s Dad.

Also appearing in the recording are Benjamin Karran as Beleaguered Geek, Chris Parkinson as Hipster Dork/Officer McCord, Jermaine Woods as Peppy Stud/Officer Milner, Eleanor Morrison Halliday as Young Republicanette, Mary-Jean Caldwell as Stoner Chick, Hannah Lowther as New Wave Party Girl, and May Tether as Drama Club Drama Queen.
