Off-Broadway's Space Dogs Musical Now Streaming Worldwide

Together with New York's MCC Theater, BroadwayHD captured the musical earlier this year and is now ready to bring the finished product to audiences worldwide. 

Space Dogs played a short engagement in January 2022 at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space and was filmed just before closing. The unusual plot tells the true story of Laika and the Chief Designer, a stray dog, and the top-secret scientist who sent her to space during the Cold War.

The Off-Broadway musical was written and performed by Van Hughes and Nick Blaemire who are joined by puppets, stuffed animals, and various musical instruments to tell the crazy adventures of Laika and the Chief Designer.

The show was filmed at its Off-Broadway home during its two final performances, and invited audience members to be "a part of the studio experience and in on the secret."

While the show did not last long Off-Broadway, it was extended twice by MCC and recorded a cast album that was produced by Kurt Deutsch, which is now streaming as well.

While streaming platform BroadwayHD did not manage to release much in 2022, their lineup for the next few months includes Broadway's Mr. Saturday Night and Broken Wings: The Musical, which has been delayed due to unexpected issues.

According to press notes, Ellie Heyman directs the MCC Theater production, with choreography by Darrell Grand Moultrie, scenic design by Wilson Chin, costume design by Haydee Zelideth Atuñano, lighting design by Mary Ellen Stebbins, sound design by Nathan Leigh, projection design by Stefania Bulbarella and Alex Basco Koch, and puppet and props design by Amanda Villalobos.

In a previous statement, Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley, co-founders of BroadwayHD said, "Space Dogs is an incredible live capture that launches viewers on an unforgettable journey through space. We're thrilled to celebrate its exclusive worldwide premiere with our subscribers."
