Happy Heathers Day: Stream the 1989 Heathers Film for Free

With the upcoming live capture of Heathers coming later this month to the Roku Channel, it's time to celebrate all things Heathers the Musical.

To start things off, today is a great chance to revisit the cult 1989 movie that started it all, available now to stream for free ahead of the musical's release.

Despite being a box office flop in the '80s, the movie received multiple awards and is considered one of the greatest coming-of-age films of all time. 

Here's how to stream the original 1989 film during Heathers month:

For the month of September, the 1989 film Heathers will be streaming for free in the US and Canada - a direct link has been added to our list of free streaming musicals and plays. 

In 2010, the cult film was made into a stage musical directed by Andy Fickman. Following several readings and workshops, the musical opened Off-Broadway in 2014 and in the West End in 2018.

While the Off-Broadway production was short-lived, the show became a huge hit in the UK, extending several times and embarking on a UK tour. The production originally starred Carrie Hope Fletcher as Veronica Sawyer, Jodie Steele as Heather Chandler, Jamie Muscato as JD, T’Shan Williams as Heather Duke, and Sophie Isaacs as Heather McNamara.

In April 2022 it was announced Steam Motion & Sound (Waitress, Aladdin: The Broadway Musical, Kinky Boots) filmed the return engagement of the show at The Other Palace. The show was captured over several performances in May 2022 and will be released on September 16th, 2022.
