Lin-Manuel Miranda’s IN THE HEIGHTS: Chasing Broadway Dreams Released for Free Streaming

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams” has been released for free streaming for the month of June!

Here's how you can watch 'In The Heights' now:

Production company RadicalMedia (Hamilton, Hamilton's America, Shrek the Musical, Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway) chronicled the personal stories of bringing "In The Heights" to the Broadway stage back in 2008. "In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams" follows Lin-Manuel Miranda and the original Broadway company of In The Heights in the months leading up to their 2008 opening night at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

You can now stream In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams for free until June 30, 2022. Check our list of free streaming musicals and plays.

The documentary first premiered on PBS in 2018 and has been mostly behind paywall since.

The press release also mentions that "in addition to thrilling extended performance sequences of the original cast of In the Heights onstage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway, this Great Performances program offers an intimate look at the production backstage and off-stage."

It took Lin-Manuel Miranda almost eight years to write "In The Heights", with production company RadicalMedia identifying the show's potential early on and documenting it from early workshops. The film follows the creative team and cast as they open the show off-Broadway, transfer to Broadway, and eventually win the Tony Award for Best Musical.

While "In The Heights" was not a huge success on Broadway as Lin-Manuel's other Broadway hit (Hamilton), it still managed to run for more than 1,000 performances and open in the West End.

RadicalMedia filmed a similar documentary about the development of Hamilton, called "Hamilton's America". That documentary is also available to stream for free right now.

"In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams" is part of PBS' Great Performances series. The 2022 season of Great Performances has just recently concluded but all episodes are still available to stream online (for a very limited time) - the West End production of Anything Goes starring Sutton Foster, Keeping Company with Sondheim, and Shakespeare in the Park's production of Merry Wives.
