WAITRESS Musical Live Capture Arrives in Cinemas December 7

Following multiple sold-out engagements at the Tribeca Film Festival, the eagerly anticipated film adaptation of "Waitress: the Musical," starring Sara Bareilles, is set to hit theaters nationwide this December!

After a fierce bidding war, Bleecker Street Media has secured the U.S. distribution rights for this highly acclaimed musical, which premiered to critical acclaim earlier this year.

"Waitress: the Musical" will grace the big screen starting December 7, 2023, in partnership with Fathom Events, promising an exceptional and must-see cinematic experience. The film is expected to screen in select cinemas in the US Dec 7-11, with showings scheduled according to demand. Tickets will go on sale later this month.

The musical is expected to arrive at international venues later in the year, and eventually make it to streaming platforms.

The captivating and visually stunning footage from the immensely popular musical, with Sara Bareilles in the lead role, was captured live on stage during its 2021 Broadway revival.

"Waitress: the Musical" brings the Tony-nominated Broadway sensation to a wider audience. Sara Bareilles portrays Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and skilled pie maker trapped in a small town and an unhappy marriage. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a baking contest in a neighboring county offers her a chance at freedom, inspiring Jenna to rediscover a long-lost part of herself.

 


 

With the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, Jenna begins to summon the courage to pursue a dream she had long shelved. "Waitress" celebrates the power of friendship, the pursuit of dreams, the families we choose, and the simple joy of a well-baked pie.

The world premiere screening at the Tribeca Film Festival came after two years of post-production work by STEAM Motion and Sound, who also produced the filmed captures of Aladdin: The Broadway MusicalHeathers the MusicalKinky Boots, and the recently announced "The Prince of Egypt".

"Waitress: Filmed Live on Broadway" is directed by STEAM's resident director Brett Sullivan, along with Diane Paulus and Jessie Nelson. The film is produced by Michael Roiff, Barry & Fran Weissler, Sara Bareilles, Jessie Nelson, and Paul Morphos.

 


 

Waitress: Filmed Live on Broadway brings the Tony-nominated, Broadway phenomenon to the big screen. Featuring composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles as Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself.

Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, Jenna begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf. Waitress celebrates the power of friendship, dreams, the family we choose and the beauty of a well-baked pie.

The musical opened on Broadway in April 2016, received Grammy nominations, and had a successful run until January 2020. After the Broadway shutdown due to the pandemic, it was revived at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in September 2021, with Bareilles taking on the lead role. The filmed version of the musical was produced during this limited engagement and will be showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival.
