West End Kiss Me, Kate With Stephanie J. Block Filmed for Release

The magic of live theater is making its way to cinemas as the West End’s critically acclaimed production of Kiss Me, Kate has been captured on film at London’s Barbican Theatre.

Directed by the celebrated Bartlett Sher, whose previous works include My Fair Lady and The King & I, this vibrant rendition of Cole Porter’s beloved musical will soon be screened in cinemas across the UK and Ireland, bringing the excitement of the West End to a broader audience.

At the heart of this production is a stellar cast led by TV favorite Adrian Dunbar, known for his role in Line of Duty, who takes on the role of Fred Graham. He is joined by Broadway sensation and Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block, who shines as Lilli Vanessi. The show also features a dynamic ensemble, including Charlie Stemp (Crazy For You, Mary Poppins) as Bill Calhoun, Georgina Onuorah (The Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma!) as Lois Lane, and Peter Davison (Dr. Who, All Creatures Great and Small) as the General.

Adding to the mix are Hammed Animashaun (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Black Ops) and Nigel Lindsay (Victoria, Shrek The Musical), who bring humor and energy to their roles as the gangsters.

The production, which has earned rave reviews from London’s top critics, boasts a company of over 50 performers, including a full-scale orchestra that delivers iconic Cole Porter numbers such as "Another Op'nin', Another Show," "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," "Tom, Dick or Harry," and "It’s Too Darn Hot."

Producer Howard Panter expressed his excitement about the film adaptation, saying, “The overwhelming response to Kiss Me, Kate has been nothing short of extraordinary. We’re thrilled to be able to bring this production to an even wider audience through the magic of cinema, ensuring that the joy of this very funny musical masterpiece resonates far beyond the stage.”

But the excitement doesn’t end with the UK and Ireland cinema release. The filmed production is also set to cross the Atlantic, arriving in the US next year, where American audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy this theatrical gem. Additionally, the film will make its streaming debut in 2025, allowing fans around the world to experience the magic of Kiss Me, Kate from the comfort of their homes.

As the Barbican run of Kiss Me, Kate draws to a close on September 14, 2024, theater lovers have just a short time left to see the production live on stage. However, with its upcoming cinema and streaming releases, this timeless musical will continue to enchant audiences for years to come.
