"Waitress", the Tony Award-nominated musical that originated from the 2007 film of the same name, is still looking for a streaming distributor to pick up the live capture for wide release. Producers are hoping the Tribeca showings will help the capture find a distributor.

The world premiere screening is the result of nearly two years of post-production work by STEAM Motion and Sound, who also produced the filmed captures of Aladdin: The Broadway MusicalHeathers the Musical, and Kinky Boots.

"Waitress: Filmed Live on Broadway" is directed by STEAM's resident director Brett Sullivan, along with Diane Paulus and Jessie Nelson. The film is produced by Michael Roiff, Barry & Fran Weissler, Sara Bareilles, Jessie Nelson, and Paul Morphos.

The musical opened on Broadway in April 2016, received Grammy nominations, and had a successful run until January 2020. After the Broadway shutdown due to the pandemic, it was revived at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in September 2021, with Bareilles taking on the lead role. The filmed version of the musical was produced during this limited engagement and will be showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival.
