The 1965 broadcast was really a remake of the original TV airing that starred Julie Andrews in the title role. The original version aired almost ten years earlier and was highly successful for CBS - leading the network to air a "revival" of the show with several improvements.

The musical has been added to our growing list of free musicals and plays you can stream online. Cinderella will be available until October 27th.

The show originally aired on CBS on February 22, 1965, and was named the highest-rated non-sports television event on CBS up until 2010, setting the record for the show that held that title for the longest time in history.

Since Oscar Hammerstein II passed away several years before the broadcast, Richard Rodgers was the one who took the lead on this production and served as the Executive Producer on set. Cinderella features music by Richard Rodgers and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

Lesley Ann Warren (making her television debut) stars in the filmed production alongside Stuart Damon, Celeste Holm, Walter Pigeon, and Ginger Rogers. The cut song "Loneliness of Evening," was removed from the original 1949 production, and appears in this live filming. The song was later added to the revival that recently played on Broadway.
