FAME Musical Will Stream for Free All Weekend Long

FAME Musical Will Stream for Free All Weekend Long

One of our favorite high school musicals - David De Silva's FAME - will be streaming all weekend for free! The original needs no introduction - the 1980 mega-hit inspired various remakes and multiple television series - with the 2009 film now available to stream for free.

And after streaming the film, make sure to check out the "filmed on stage" version of Fame - a fun and highly addictive pro-shot documenting the recent UK tour of the stage musical.

Here's all you need to know about the 2009 film and the 2020 filmed stage production:

Never a critic's favorite, FAME became a global phenomenon in 1980 thanks to the success of the original film starring Irene Cara, Gene Anthony Ray, and Debbie Allen.

The film, as you all know, follows a group of talented young students throughout their four years at the High School for the Performing Arts in New York City, where everyone is given a chance to live out their dreams.

The incredible success of the original film spawned a whole franchise, which includes this 2009 remake by MGM, starring original star Debbie Allen. The film is now available to stream for free all weekend long and was just added to our list of free streaming musicals.

The 2009 adaptation features choreography and direction by Kevin Tancharoen, with writers Allison Burnett and Aline Brosh McKenna penning the screenplay. The cast includes Debbie Allen, Charles S. Dutton, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally, and Broadway star Bebe Neuwirth.

David De Silva not only conceived the original FAME film, but also the highly successful stage production, which is loosely based on the original storyline of the 1980 movie.

The musical was first staged in Miami back in 1988 and has been produced all over the world by hundreds of professional and amateur theater groups. While the show was never produced on Broadway, a notable New York City run in 2003 titled "Fame on 42nd Street" was very popular.

The filmed stage production is the 30th anniversary UK tour that opened in Manchester on July 20, 2018. The show was produced by Selladoor Productions and toured the UK for nearly two years. The last stop of the tour was filmed during the tour's stop at the Peacock Theatre in London's West End.

The rights to the filmed production were sold to BroadwayHD, with the musical now available to stream online
