Behind the Scenes of SIX: Filmed Live in London

Filming has wrapped on SIX the Musical - Live in London! The show was filmed multiple times throughout the week at London's Vaudeville Theatre while regular performances went off sale.

Check out our Behind the Scenes look at how the show was captured on film:

It takes a village to film a musical on stage, and in SIX's case more than 50 crew members to get the show captured. Joining stage directors Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage was Liz Clare, a BAFTA-nominated multi-camera director known for her work on large-scale live events and award shows. Clare previously directed the last 6 seasons of The Voice UK, The MTV EMAs, The Brit Awards, and multiple high-profile concerts.

Nathaniel Hill served as Director of Photography for the filmed production. His previous work includes capturing large-scale music concerts such as ITV's Adele Live, Dua Lipa's "2054", and multiple Coldplay shows.

The London production at the Vaudeville Theatre was taken off sale for the week of June 27, allowing a complete takeover of the theater that included the installation of eight motorized cameras in the Stalls and Dress Circle areas. The camera setup included a crane in the center of the theatre and four stationary cameras at the back.

SIX was filmed twice on June 28 without an audience for multiple pickup shots and then filmed a complete run of the show the afternoon of June 29 with an invited audience cheering from the Dress Circle.

Unlike most digital captures, the June 29 performance had the main floor closed for the cameras capturing the show while the invited crowd filled up the top two levels of the theater.

To wrap up filming, audiences were invited back to the theatre on July 1 for a final run-through of the show to capture audience reactions from the Stalls. Cameras were taken to the back of the main floor, allowing the audience to be right in front of the stage and interact with the Queens. A big dolly camera was placed behind the audience in the Stalls while multiple stationary cameras were also present in the Dress Circle for wide shots.
