On an ocean liner, a nightclub singer tries to help a fellow American romance an English heiress who is being forced to return home to marry a man she doesn't love. The American must avoid his boss who is traveling on the same vessel and disguises himself as a gangster traveling with a minister who is, in fact, a disguised gangster on the lam.
Originally planned as a revival of the Kathleen Marshall Roundabout Broadway production starring comedian Megan Mullally, the show replaced the leading lady with Sutton Foster, making her London debut.
The musical then opened at the Barbican on July 2021 after many delays and received rave reviews from London critics.
Just before closing in November 2021, the musical was filmed by Liberator Film Studios, parent company of Stage2View, who had previously worked on the West End captures of Kinky Boots and 42nd Street.
The capture was later screened in cinemas worldwide - UK cinemas in November 2021 and later a US release in March 2022.
Both the BBC in the UK and PBS in the US paid for the broadcasting rights of the program, with each featuring the show as part of their musical programming in 2022.
