Leopoldstadt (2022)

Sonia Friedman Productions in association with the National Theatre present Leopoldstadt - Tom Stoppard’s critically acclaimed play is a passionate story of love, family, and endurance.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Leopoldstadt was the old, crowded Jewish quarter of Vienna, Austria. The play follows Hermann Merz, a factory owner and baptized Jew now married to Catholic Gretl, who has moved up in the world. The two-hour play tells his family’s story across half a century, passing through the convulsions of war, revolution, impoverishment, and annexation by Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.

A large company of 40 actors represent each generation of the family in this epic and intimate play. Filmed live on stage in London’s West End.
