The Will Rogers Follies (1993)
The Will Rogers Follies is a Broadway musical revue with a book by Peter Stone, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and music by Cy Coleman. The musical tells the true life story of American folk hero and performer Will Rogers, using the backdrop of the Ziegfeld Follies.
Various circus acts such as rope tricks and live animals are incorporated in the show, between the big splashy dance numbers by Tommy Tune. The musical contains snippets of Rogers' famous quotes, such as "I never met a man I didn't like", which is repeated throughout the evening.
The show was filmed live for Japanese television in 1991, where only 30 airings of the musicals were allowed in exchange for $2 million that was invested in the original Broadway run.
