700 Sundays (2014)

Based on his autobiography of the same name, Billy Crystal stars in this personal one-man Broadway show.

In the show, Crystal tells the story of his youth, growing up in Manhattan, and eventually becoming a successful comedian. "700 Sundays" refers to the number of Sundays Billy shared with his father, Jack Crystal.

Crystal's stage adaptation of the book was originally produced at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2004 and opened on Broadway that same year. The show received critical acclaim and was a smash hit at the box office. The won then went on to win the 2005 Tony Award for Special Theatrical Event.

Almost a decade later, a 50-performance revival was mounted at the Imperial Theatre to allow HBO to film the production. The show then aired in April 2014 and was released on DVD from HBO.

In his review for Variety, Brian Lowry said: 'Directed by Des McAnuff, the TV version does a fine job of keeping the presentation interesting and varied, including the way videoclips are woven in to the editing. It is also, clearly, a performance, not standup, although Crystal, jazz aficionado that he is, can’t resist occasionally riffing with the audience.'
