Oklahoma (1999)
The classic Rogers and Hammerstein 1943 musical Oklahoma! was captured on film in 1999 starring Hugh Jackman as Curly McLain. The film was taped on sound stages in the UK (Similar to the filmed production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat that same year) and was directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Susan Stroman.
Featured in the recording are the entire 1998 West End Revival cast from the National Theatre. Joining Jackman are Josefina Gabrielle as Laurey Williams, and Maureen Lipman as Aunt Eller.
The musical features Broadway classics such as Oh What a Beautiful Morning, The Surrey with the Fringe on Top , the title classic and more.
Shout! Factory released the musical on Blu-Ray in 2017. In his review for Clcit.com, Matt Brunson said: 'Foremost among its attributes is the excellent performance by Hugh Jackman, soon to become an overnight movie star thanks to 2000's X-Men. Here, he's irresistible as Curly, the amiable cowboy who woos farm girl Laurey (Josefina Gabrielle) while remaining leery of menacing farm hand Jud Fry (Shuler Hensley).'
