Victor/Victoria (1995)
This stage classic is the story of an out of work singer whose life changes when she meets the flamboyant Toddy. With his help, she becomes 'Victor,' an overnight singing sensation in the nightclubs of Paris. But success becomes hilariously complicated when she meets the love of her life, King Marchan, a macho Chicago gangster. This is the stage production starring the Broadway cast.
The Broadway production of Victor/Victoria was taped in 1995 for Japanese television, much like two other captures - Pacific Overtures and The Will Rogers Follies. While the show was broadcast on Japanese television while still running on Broadway, it was not made available in any other part of the world until a few years later.
The show was eventually released on both DVD and Blu-Ray. A notable difference in the Blu-Ray disc is that it is using an unedited version of the final broadcast and features many shots taken at different performances when compared with the DVD version.
