Broadway's Bandstand the Musical Streams Free Globally June 17
Bandstand, the Broadway musical by Richard Oberacker and Robert Taylor, will stream worldwide for free this weekend for 24 hours only. The musical stars Tony Award-winner Beth Leavel together with Broadway favorites Corey Cott and Laura Osnes. Directed by Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, Fosse), Bandstand was captured live at Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in 2017 by "Sing Out, Louise!", producers of live capture of Broadway's Allegiance the Musical. Bandstand centers around World War II vet Donny Novitzki, who is trying to return to life after losing his best friend at war. When Donny hears of a radio contest to support the troops and meets star vocalist Julia, he puts together the Donny Nova Band to win the competition. Following cinema screenings in 2018, Bandstand was released online through Broadway on Demand and is now available as part of the streamer's "Broadway at Home" platform. Bandstand will stream free all day on Saturday, June 17, for 24 hours only. To watch the stream, head over to the Broadway at Home site where Bandstand will be available starting at 12 AM ET. The channel can also be watched on most TVs using Chromecast, AirPlay, and more. If you've missed the free stream, a 48-hour rental will be available following the broadcast through Broadway on Demand, for $9.99. In his review for the HuffPost, David Finkle said: "Bandstand is being promoted as 'a swing musical,' and that’s what it joyfully is, as director-choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton) deploys a cast headed by the sparkling and tough Laura Osnes and Corey Cott and boasting some of the most spectacular dancers on Broadway this minute. Over the decades Paper Mill Playhouse has been the tryout arena for many shows hoping to cross the river to Manhattan. Bandstand, first offered there in 2015, may well be the Milburn theater’s very best export."
