Will Smith-Produced Annie Remake With Cameron Diaz Now Streams Free

Annie, one of the most beloved Broadway classics of all time, spanned multiple sequels since its 1977 premiere - and now the 2014 version starring Jamie Foxx will be available to stream for free for a limited time.

The Will Smith-produced film (which was co-produced with his wife Jada and rapper Jay-Z) is the second remake of the musical following the original 1982 theatrical film with Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan and Albert Finney as Warbucks.

The much-loved 1999 made-for-tv movie with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber was the first remake of the original film.

Here's how to stream the 2014 Annie now, for free:

Unlike the original, the 2014 adaptation is set in present-day New York but keeps most hit songs from the original production. The music was rearranged by Sia and Greg Kurstin to reflect its new contemporary setting. The two composers also wrote three new songs for the film: "Opportunity", "Who Am I", and "MoonQuake Lake".

Joining Foxx in the film are Quvenzhané Wallis as Annie, Rose Byrne as Grace Farrell, Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan, and Bobby Cannavale as Guy.

Annie is now streaming for free in the US and Canada. Our list of free musicals and plays was updated with a direct link to the free stream, which will be available through March 23rd, 2023.

In his New Yorker review, Richard Brody said: "Though Gluck’s musical numbers lack high style, they capture the spice of urban sights, uptown and downtown alike, and offer a droll paean to the power of social media. The vigorous display of good feelings and comforting resolutions has an unusually effervescent sincerity, even if the rags-to-riches wish-fulfillment leaps over all the hard knocks."
