Broadway's Bandstand Musical Now Streaming Online

The boys are back, to streaming!

The Broadway production of Bandstand from director-choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (HamiltonFosse) is now available to stream online.

The musical was previously available for short periods through various streaming platforms but has now found its permanent home.

Here's all we know about "Bandstand: The Broadway Musical On Screen":

The musical Bandstand opened on Broadway in April 2017 playing nearly 200 performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

While not a hit with critics, the show managed to create a fan following during its run and was filmed for release by Sing Out, Louise! (producers of both the stage production and film capture of Allegiance the Musical).

The capture was then released to cinemas nationwide by Fathom Events as "Bandstand: The Broadway Musical On Screen" in June 2018 and had several subsequent screenings due to its success.

In 2020, the show was released to rent as part of "Playbill Playback" for a limited time. The show has now found its permanent home in Broadway on Demand, an experimental home for mostly user-generated theater content.

You can now rent Bandstand through Broadway on Demand for a period of 48 hours for just $3.99. We've updated our Bandstand page with a direct streaming link.

Set out to compete with BroadwayHD, Broadway on Demand has not managed to build its library of filmed theater in its two years of existence with only Allegiance: The Musical (also streaming through BroadwayHD) and now Bandstand available on its platform. The platform, however, is filled with free user-generated content.

Bandstand stars Corey Cott (Newsies, Gigi) as World War II vet and musical prodigy Donny Novitzki, who is trying to return to life after losing his best friend in combat. When Donny hears of a radio contest to support the troops and meets star vocalist Julia (Laura Osnes), he puts together the Donny Nova Band to win the competition.

The musical was the first theatrical production to be certified authentic by "Got Your 6", for authentic portrayal of the military across entertainment.

Written by Richard Oberacker and Robert Taylor, Bandstand also starred Joey Pero, Joe Carroll, Brandon J. Ellis, James Nathan Hopkins, and Geoff Packard as the remaining musicians in the Donny Nova Band. Tony winner Beth Leavel appeared in the recording as Julia’s mother June.

Bandstand featured sound design by Tony nominee Nevin Steinberg, scenic design by Tony nominee David Korins, costume design by Tony winner Paloma Young, lighting design by Tony winner Jeff Croiter, hair, wig, and makeup design by J. Jaren Janas and Dave Bova, and musical supervision by Greg Anthony Rassen.
