This Broadway Musical Will Be Filmed In An Empty Theater This Month

Rumours in the theater world indicate a major Broadway musical will be filmed in an empty theater, later this month. Broadway theaters abruptly closed on March 12, knocking out all shows — including 16 that were still scheduled to open, including the show that is expected to be filmed. Here are all the details we know:

Will this be the next show joining our database of filmed Broadway musicals? Written by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, Diana: A True Musical Story is expected to be filmed later this month in the now-empty Longacre Theatre. Prior to the Coronavirus shutdown, the production began previews at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway on March 2, 2020.

The show was planned to open on March 31, 2020 but on March 12 the show suspended production due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While cast members were notified last month about the event, no further details were shared with FilmedOnStage. More details are expected to be revealed soon. Browse all Broadway musicals that are now available to stream.
