National Theatre announces fourth wave of free shows streaming every Thursday

Thursday night has officially become National Theatre night, as the company now announces the fourth wave of shows to be streamed for free online. The National Theatre announced today the first show from the new lineup.

June 11th: The Madness of George III, Stream the show here!

Alan Bennett's multi-award-winning drama produced by Nottingham Playhouse. Written by one of Britain’s best-loved playwrights Alan Bennett (The History Boys, The Lady in the Van), this epic play was also adapted into a BAFTA Award-winning film following its premiere on stage in 1991.

It’s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world. But his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy. With the King’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the Crown, and expose the fine line between a King and a man.

The rest of the lineup will be updated later this week.

The ongoing National Theatre at Home programme began  with One Man, Two Guvnors and is currently expected to run through July. The filmed plays are shown every Thursday at 7PM UK time and are available on demand for seven days. The productions are made available by special rights granted to the National Theatre by the actors and directors of the productions, which have all waived their rights to the productions in order to stream it online at this time.
