42nd Street (2019)

42nd Street is the classic American dream fable of Broadway, featuring the iconic musical theatre classics 42nd Street, We’re In The Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off To Buffalo, Dames and I Only Have Eyes For You. The 2017 West End revival featured the biggest cast on London's biggest stage.

The musical tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, arriving in the big city fresh off the bus from small-town America. Peggy is 'just another face in the chorus line' on Broadway’s newest show - Pretty Lady. But when leading lady Dorothy Brock gets injured, Peggy might just have the shot at stardom she’s always dreamed of.

Bonnie Langford stars as the legendary diva ‘Dorothy Brock’ alongside Tom Lister as ‘Julian Marsh’, Clare Halse as ‘Peggy Sawyer’ and Ashley Day as ‘Billy Lawlor’. Mark Bramble, co-author of the book for the original Broadway and West End productions of 42nd Street and director of the 2001 Tony Award winning revival, directs.

42nd Street opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane April 4, 2017, and featured a cast of more than 50. The London revival was a re-staging of the 2021 Broadway revival that won the Tony Award for Best Revival Of A Musical. The London revival was directed by the musical's late co-book writer Mark Bramble. The digital capture of the show was edited in collaboration with him before his death in February 2019, making it his last project.

Before being released to streaming, the film had a special one-night-only screening in movie theaters May 1 2019. The production was captured in high definition by eight cameras over three performances just before closing in the West End May 1 2019.
